This display about our Carlton Society members is part of the 3M Innovation Center in St. Paul. The Carlton Society is like a hall of fame of 3M scientists. (For example, Richard Drew, the man you see featured? Invented masking tape among many other things.)

Every day when I walk by this display, I am reminded of something Sir Isaac Newton said: “If I have seen further, it is only by standing on the shoulders of giants.” The cool thing about these giants is that they are ready to share their knowledge and help me apply science to life as I try to solve my next problem.

I’ve had a chance to talk with close to 100 of these men and women, and each time I am amazed at how interested they are in what I am doing. This culture of collaboration at 3M is one of the key factors that will drive our ability to see farther and reach higher in the future.
